Just when things begin slowing down and you least expect it…another surprise show’s up from the very Creative and Talented Designer’s at YYJ. This time it’s called the “MATRIXX”. It measures 2 1/4″ in diameter and 1 9/16″ wide for me…although my yello/green one plays best at about 1 5/8″ wide. Weigh wise…it comes in at a very comfortable 66.6 grams. The Ball Bearing and Axle system appears to remain the same on the ‘Trixx’…as is on many of YYJ’s other models. Once you get this yo-yo “tweaked” to your style of play, it’s as smooth on the string as any I’ve seen. The biggest improvement (which I really like) is in this new “return-system” design which (IMO) performed flawlessly. On the inside of both halves, there are four small 5/16″ holes approximately 1/32″ deep which are strategically placed around the yo-yo centers. They must have a purpose, otherwise they wouldn’t be there. On one half there is also a “1/8″ deep, grooved circular hole, containing either a 3/4″ diameter rubber “O” ring…or a 3/4″ diameter flat, rubber washer…depending, I would imagine, on what was available at the time of production. Whether the yo-yo I used contained the “flat” or the “O” ring style…I was unable to detect any difference in play, nor did I favor one, more so than the other. The response, between the “O” ring and the Flat ring (IMO) appeared to be identical. On the inside of the other half around the outside of the axle, there is a 7/8″ diameter circle…which when looked at, thru a 10x jeweler’s loop…appears to have hundreds of little raised circles permanently milled directly into the plastic, eliminating the need for any add-on friction biscuits. Under the side caps, on both sides…are Metal Weight Rings. (similar to what Spintastics uses) The MATRIXX Color’s, used in the production of the “Trixx” however (IMO) are just Plain Down Right “BORING”…with perhaps the exception of this latest two-tone combo of Black and Blue. The Side Caps Design, could have had more thought put into them, as well. (kinda Generic) UPDATE: NEW COLORS ADDED. SEE PHOTO. The colors and the side caps are the “only” things I don’t like about the Matrixx…(and neither one of them affects the Playability)…and Playability (IMO) .. IS…what matters most to me…and perhaps it matters most to YYJ…as well. The “Trixx” does it all, and then some. I have never been a firm believer in thinking a butterfly-styled yo-yo was ever designed for looping…but on occasion I’ve been proven wrong. But this is just my opinion, and I don’t think I’ll change my belief till’ proven otherwise. To sum it all up (IMO) The TRIXX is a SUPER-MEAN Playing MACHINE…and well worth trying, should you ever have the opportunity to do so. (Then send Lars YOUR review…I’m sure he would appreciate receiving it.)

The Yoyojam Matrixx is the pinnacle of yo-yo perfection. It easily meets and exceeds all other yo-yos in all aspects of play, with the one excepting of looping. The Matrixx is an extremely wide ball bearing yo-yo, with an Adjustable String Gap system (which hasn’t slipped yet for me) and a unique response system. This system of rubber O-rings (as described by Hoosier Rudy) and molded friction bumps allow for amazing control, but it also means amazingly low maintenance. In fact, switching strings is all someone must do to maintain the performance of this yo-yo. And the response system is effective enough to allow the string gap to be opened an amazingly large amount, and still retain the ability to return upon command. This means that the Matrixx is also very smooth on string tricks. I wouldn’t be at all surprised, if half the competitors at the next Nationals Competition will be using the Matrixx. I disagree with Hoosier Rudy about the colors. I have a Blue one with Green sidecaps, and it looks perfectly fine to me, and the blue is a nice transparent tone too :D. Although the sidecaps could use with a little reworking, it does make a really cool spiral effect while spinning. The shape is nice also. It is nice and wide, which makes it very easy to land on various mounts. Although the edges where the butterfly design tapers off are rather sharp, it really does not matter. These edges will only cause pain when they slam into the knuckles. This has only happened once, while I was first attempting Nanda Kanda, and I had forgotten to open up the gap at all. All in all, this yo-yo is an awesome piece of machinery, much better than anything in my collection. It is extremely tunable to a players preference, and is the best $15 bucks a person can spend on a yo-yo. The measly $15 will result in a yo-yo that is perfect for a beginner, and even better for a more advanced player. It just grows on you. Easily adjusting to your changing needs, and unique style.

I ordered this yo-yo a while after hearing what an incredible string trick yo yo it was. First of all, gotta say, the price was good, only 16.00… The color selection wasn’t too great, but that’s not the point. It has pretty good sleep times, not the best, but just about enough. On the string it can slow down a little, but yeah, it happens. I also found that some times the “O ring” response system isn’t always reliable. It’s very hard to get adjusted to where you want it, but once you find it, you’ll love it. And with practice you might get some loops out if too. This is definately a must have yo-yo.
